Welcome to the fifth stop on the Gaslight Demons Virtual Book Tour.  My name is Gloria Weber and I am the author of Gaslight Demons, published by Morbidgames Publishing.  And before I really get going, I would like thank Berin for allowing me to guest blog here.

Now, I’m going to make an awkward confession: I’m a pansy, especially when it comes to laws.  Examples of my namby-pambiness include fear jaywalking and driving at or just below the speed limit (I beg forgiveness from all those who have driven behind me).  But that is the reason I love role playing games and writing.  In a fictional world you can be far more daring than you are in the real world.

Good guys even break laws in a good game or book.  They do it for a greater good or for their own safety.  You don’t think about murder or manslaughter charges to save the girl, the character just kills the kidnapper.  In an escapist indulgence the ramifications are further removed, and what can be done is usually done.

In Gaslight Demons, I abused the hell out of this.  Just by being born and breathing the main character, Sophia Nogard, breaks laws.  But she isn’t a bad person and becomes an Occult Officer, someone who polices the magic used in the world I created.  In order to seek justice, she has to go against someone corrupting the system against her.  Thus more law breaking ensues.

Just because games and books are escapist worlds doesn’t mean that they are always free of backlash.  What laws characters break, what they can and can’t get away with, and how they face obstacles from the law are always interesting challenges to see characters deal with.  And lets be honest, we’d rather see it happen to characters than us.
