The topic of January’s RPG Blog Carvinal was New Year’s Gaming Goals and Resolutions. A lot of people took time to both look back and reflect on 2008 and set their sites on what they want to accomplish in 2009. I was happy to host this one and look forward to February’s carnival, which will be hosted by Jonathan at The Core Mechanic!

Like many, RoleplayingPro’s Goals For 2009 were focused on improving their blog in the coming year.

The Bone Scroll’s Thoughts for the New Year included not only goals but predictions for the industry in 2009.

Mad Brew Labs: It’s Alive! also offer predictions, as well as some thoughts on how the RPG blogosphere could evolve in the next 12 months.

Fame and Fortune talked about giving back to the community with open source and more giving back to the community.

Nuketown New Year’s Gaming Goals and Resolutions was one of many who don’t normally make resolutions but participated anyway, and one one of a handful who mentioned roleplaying with his kids.

In Getting Off The Pot, Greyhawk Grognard commits to designing an adventure and publishing a level per month on his blog.

SoogaGames Goals for 2009 include getting more people to play more games than last year, which is the stated purpose of his blog.

The Society of Torch, Pole and Rope offers up 12 resolutions, which include working on a homebrew.

How to Start a Revolution in 21 Days or Less’s Eight Gaming New Year’s Resolutions are very specific, and include working on a megadungeon, writing a Traveller subsector and reading Conan stories.

The Dice Bag sees 2009 as a year of collaboration, and illustrates the post with the Blue Man Group and their drumbone for the win.

Games of State New Year’s Gaming Goals and Resolutions echoes work/life balance others stated, a desire to play more indie games that was another recurrent theme, and a resolution to accept more invitations to join games.

tenletter declares that this is the year, and wants to play classes he’s never played before in addition to finishing his thesis. Wow. Battlemage Jaes Walks Alone expanded on the resolution to explore one-player / one-GM gaming more in-depth.

Gaming in Code talks about finding his voice, reflects on what he blogged about in the past and shifting to a more optimistic outlook.

The Good Gaming Blog: Life is a (Blog) Carnival: Resolutions and Understandings of a Hopeless DM discussed the desire to turn a group of players into competent DMs, and his sorrow over why it probably won’t work.

Chgowiz’s Old Guy Gaming Blog wants to spread the old school love, among other things. An admirable venture.

Initiative or What? RPG Blog Carnival — New Year’s Gaming Goals and Resolutions expressed the desire to be a player instead of the DM, but also wants to be a better DM. Excellent goals, both.

Questing GM; A Borneon Gamer: New Year, New Quests talks about wanting to turn the significant other into a gamer.

Stargazer’s World Goals for 2009 gets specific about games to try in the new year, and the desire to create a scifi setting to game in.

Thehistoryfollower’s Blog: Gaming Resolutions for the Coming Year talks about reading all those game PDFs, getting out to more conventions, and writing reviews.

At Campaign Mastery Johnn’s 2009 RPG Goals include blogging more, in addition to continuing to write Roleplaying Tips. Mike Bourke also wraps the year up nicely, and brings us into 2009 with much food for thought in his Happy New Year! post.
