As most of you know by now, I have this recurring existential crisis wherein I question whether I will ever grow up and if it’s healthy to be 44 years old and still fascinated by stuff like Godzilla movies, punk rock, and roleplaying games. The recent death of E. Gary Gygax, the Father of Roleplaying Games, put a lot of things into perspective for me.

While driving in my car — the place I seem to do most of my deep thinking these days — I somehow came up with a methods of classifying games that I don’t recall seeing before. I’ve Googled it and found nothing, so maybe I’m onto something. I have no idea what practical use it might be, but that’s a marketing problem.

This classification system allied to all games, from tabletop roleplaying to miniatures to board games, sports to puzzles to game shows and reality shows. It plots a game along two axes, Creative and Social.
